An interesting article in the Weekend Australia dated November 17th reported the car industrie's fierce defense of its pricing when compared to the costs of similar cars in the U.S, UK and Europe.

The industry spokesman said cars had never been  more affordable and price disparities, which can amount to thousands of dollars on popular luxury models were due to Australian taxes, the size of the market and the better specification levels offered in Australia.

The Chief Executive  of the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries, Tony Weber said affordability was at an all time high. "Cars are substantially cheaper that what they been historically, but we'd like to see the Luxury cat tax removed -its a distortion to the market"

(Luxury car tax in Australia is applied to vehicle's priced at a threshold of $60,316 and $75,375 for fuel efficient cars.)
